Scientific Name: Caladium bicolor
Folk Name: Angel Wings, Elephant Ear and Heart of Jesus.
Characteristics and Care: Caladium plants are marked by their large, heart-shaped leaves which are typically dual-colored.
The rib tends to be the most dramatic in color, with the surrounding leaf being somewhat striped. They come in a variety of colors, including green, white, pink, rose and red.
ARE CALADIUMS ANNUALS OR PERENNIALS?
This is a tropical perennial that typically reaches around twelve to thirty inches in height.
There is another kind of Caladium which are referred to as lance-leaved or strap variety.
These have leaves which are somewhat ruffled in appearance, and they are shorter as well, growing to less than twelve inches.
DO CALADIUMS LIKE SUN OR SHADE?
Caladium thrive in hot, humid weather and are best cultivated in an area with at least partial shade. They can tolerate direct sunlight, provided they are given an adequate amount of water.
Additionally, these are a great choice for people with busy lifestyles, as they don’t require a ton of maintenance other that being sure you keep it properly watered. They love a lot water.
